Primitive Survival Fishing With Gorge Hooks how to make Gorge Hooks in 3 easy steps The gorge hook is a simple yet highly effective primitive tool that works as well today as it did a thousand years ago. And in a survival scenario, it can be a real lifesaver. The basic premise is to sharpen a piece of wood or bone that can lodge into the gullet or soft innards of a fish, effectively hooking it without a barb. Obviously, this is not a catch-and-release practice, but it's an effective way to catch fish when obtaining protein is the primary objective. Panfish, catfish, trout, and bass will suck in bait with gusto, only to find themselves stuck when the gorge hook rotates sideways and engages. Fixed set lines work well with gorge hooks, but you can fish them actively, too. To make a gorge hook is simple: 1 . First, locate a thin, rigid piece of bone, horn, hardwood, or cactus spine. Primitive Survival Trap Season 1 Episode 8 Figure Four Survival Trap  A  deadfall  is used to catch  mice and squirrels and anything else small. The bait is attached to the end of the pointed end so when the animal takes off the bait it will disrupt the setup and crush the animal. Deadfall traps A  deadfall  is a heavy rock or log that is tilted at an angle and held up with sections of branches, with one of them serving as a trigger. When the animal moves the trigger, which may have bait on or near it, the rock or log falls, crushing the animal. The rock or log must be at least five times heavier than the animal that is to be caught. For example, if the target animal is a 3 pound rabbit, the log must be at least 15 pounds. The figure-four deadfall is a popular and simple trap constructed from materials found in the bush (three sticks with notches cut into them, plus a heavy rock or other heavy object). Also popular, and easier to set, is the Paiute deadfall, consisting of three long st

It is placed where the hunter knows the prey usually passes through or in its preferred habitat, along with small baits, like seeds or pieces of bread. When the animal steps on the right spot, the trap is triggered by its weight, dropping the pyramidal structure on top of it and preventing it from fleeing. The trigger is normally concealed under a layer of dried leaves and soil, taken from the same place so it will not look suspicious to the victim. A word of Warning: This guide
